Welcome to the Big Easy, Where Dogs Are Part of the Family!
New Orleans isn’t just a city; it’s home. With its oak-lined streets, jazz spilling out of every corner, and a rhythm that invites everyone—especially your furbaby—to join the celebration, there’s no place like it.
It’s the city where I’ve met some amazing people, attended school, experienced my first try at love—and, yes, lost it too.
It’s where my husband and I have shared so many unforgettable moments, from quiet walks under the oaks to magical nights filled with music and laughter. It’s also where my babies have had their “firsts,” creating memories we’ll treasure forever.
There’s truly nothing I don’t love about this city—it’s amazing and inspirational.
Stella, our Louisiana-born pup with a name inspired by that unforgettable “STELLA!” line from A Streetcar Named Desire, has grown up along the coast and luckily gets to experience this incredible city.
Together, we’ve explored every nook and cranny, creating memories that add to the tapestry of our story here.
This guide isn’t just about dog-friendly New Orleans—it’s about the city that inspires me every day. It’s a little lagniappe, a gift of extra magic, that makes every moment here unforgettable. And if your dog has come to enjoy a certain aesthetic every day – why then NOLA is your go-to destination.
Let’s dive in and share the magic with you!
Where to Stay: Pet-Friendly Perfection
The Chloe

Why It’s Paw-some: Nestled in a historic Uptown mansion, The Chloe is all about boutique luxury. Think velvet chairs, lush courtyards, and even treats for your pup. When we want to feel like tourists in our own city, this is our go-to spot for a staycation.
Stella’s Take: Belly rubs from the staff and water bowls on demand? She was in heaven. This is where we unwind and pretend we’re out-of-towners, enjoying the charm of Uptown New Orleans.
Hotel Peter and Paul

Why It’s Paw-some: A stunning blend of vintage and modern, this former church-turned-hotel is both chic and dog-welcoming. (For pups under 50 lbs!)
Stella’s Take: She loved the golden hour vibes in the courtyard—a perfect spot for a lazy afternoon.
Catahoula Hotel

Why It’s Paw-some: Cozy boutique vibes with a rooftop bar? Yes, please. Sip cocktails while your pup lounges at your feet.
Stella’s Take: She stole the show on the rooftop. Even the bartenders couldn’t resist her charm!
Dog-Friendly Destinations You Can’t Miss
Crescent Park
Why It’s Paw-some: Gorgeous Mississippi River views and wide open spaces for a leisurely stroll.
Stella’s Take: Sniffing every corner and boat-watching were her favorite pastimes. If there’s a breeze, she’ll find it, ears flapping in pure bliss.
The Garden District
Why It’s Paw-some: Stroll past historic mansions and under shady oak trees for that quintessential New Orleans charm.
Stella’s Take: What can I say? My girl loves a camera. She made friends with other stylish pups and posed in front of those colorful homes like she belonged on a postcard.
City Bark at City Park
Why It’s Paw-some: An expansive dog friendly park and place in New Orleans with areas for big and small dogs, plenty of shade, and water fountains.
Stella’s Take: She burned off all her energy while making new friends. If you have a doodle this is the perfect spot for those zoomie moments (on their leash of course) – until they decide it’s muddy water play time.
Lafreniere Park Soccer Fields
Why It’s Paw-some: It’s not just about the fields; the park is a hub of activity. Stella loves watching her big human brother’s soccer games here, lounging around for free belly rubs—ok, let’s be honest, she barks a lot for attention.
Stella’s Take: She’s the unofficial mascot, soaking in the spotlight and sneaking pets from other fans.
Pet-Friendly Restaurants and Cafes
Cafe Du Monde in City Park
Why It’s Paw-some: Beignets and chicory coffee with a side of serene park views? Yes, please. This location is a family favorite—perfect for relaxing mornings with Stella.
Stella’s Take: She loved lounging on the patio, soaking in the southern sun while her brothers and sister run and enjoy the park. It’s one of her happy places—and ours too.
The Bulldog Uptown
Why It’s Paw-some: This pub’s outdoor patio is a hotspot for dog owners to gather.
Stella’s Take: Tail wags galore as she made a few new canine pals. Plus, the humans were pretty great too.
Dat Dog
Why It’s Paw-some: Creative hot dogs and a welcoming patio for your furry friend.
Stella’s Take: She may have eyed my food, but she was content with her own snack. This is where the fun, laid-back vibes of New Orleans shine through.
Events and Activities for Furry Royalty
Barkus Parade (During Mardi Gras)
Why It’s Paw-some: Mardi Gras with a twist! Pups take center stage in this lively parade.
Stella’s Take: Dressed in beads, she strutted her stuff like a Mardi Gras queen. The crowds loved her, and she loved the attention.
Paws on the Green at Lafreniere Park
Why It’s Paw-some: Live music, vendors, and activities make this festival a dog’s dream.
Stella’s Take: Treat stations and mingling with vendors? She was in her element. It’s a must-do for dog lovers.
Annual Blessing of the Pets at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church
Why It’s Paw-some: Every fall, our family’s home away from home church honors St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, with a special blessing in the church plaza. It’s held near the Joan of Arc statue and Grotto—a beautiful tradition for the community.
Stella’s Take: She stood proudly as Father blessed her, soaking in the love and attention from everyone around. It’s one of those moments that feels deeply special.
Art Markets and Outdoor Events
Why It’s Paw-some: Frenchmen Art Market and similar events welcome well-behaved pups.
Stella’s Take: She soaked up the attention and enjoyed exploring the unique booths. Plus, the occasional ear scratch from a vendor didn’t hurt.
